No 20 was built about 1750 and originally thought to be a Dutch Merchants house. The integrity of the house has been preserved by the current owner and is a beautiful example of restoration in the Galle Fort. The rooms are light and airy with high ceilings, terrazzo floors and the original teak windows. This really is la grand dame of the Galle Forts private residences.
With numerous places to sit and relax, this villa provides the perfect respite from the hustle and bustle of the Galle streets.
Entering the house from Middle Street through the grand arches into the cool entrance hall you'll immediately notice calming environment this villa creates. To one side is the elegant library and drawing room. To the other, a games room complete with pool table and flat screen TV/DVD with surround sound. WiFi runs through the ground floor to make sure your always connected. The ground floor also has a large dinning room and kitchen. The master suite is upstairs and has a private balcony with a fantastic view of the old Dutch Reform Church.
The downstairs terrace looks over the internal courtyard garden, lush with tropical plants and Jurassic ginger flowers. Stepping stones leads you to annex which houses the other two bedroom suites and another terrace to relax on. The annex also boasts a small plunge pool to escape the heat of the day.
